Granero refuge in winter

Come and live the High Altitude

A historic refuge in the heart of Valpellice and next to the "King of Stone"; reachable only by foot or e-bike. Quality cuisine, authentic hospitality, timeless panoramas.

The history of the Refuge

The Monte Granero Alpine Battalion Refuge—or simply Rifugio Granero, as we all call it—is where the roads end and the trails begin. It faces Lago Lungo, in Adrech del Laus, at the end of the Pellice Valley, just over an hour's walk from the French border, right at the foot of Monte Granero.

It is the oldest of the Alpine refuges in this valley:

The foundation stone was laid in 1926, and the refuge was inaugurated on July 22, 1928. At the time, the building, constructed entirely of bricks, offered hospitality to 22 hikers. It was a spartan structure, designed for those who lived the mountains with passion, hard work, and respect.

Between the 1980s and 1990s, the refuge grew along with the dreams of its residents and visitors. A new floor was added, capable of accommodating up to fifty people, while maintaining the authentic spirit of a place that offers itself, but not to just anyone: only to those who choose to set out on the journey.

Today, the Granero continues to be a safe haven for mountain explorers. Here you'll find hot showers, restrooms, electricity, Wi-Fi, a public telephone for emergencies... and that simple, sincere hospitality that never fades out of fashion. Family management has allowed the refuge to improve year after year, without betraying its soul.

Because Granero isn't just a stopover. It's a story that renews itself every summer, along with those who come up here.

There are places you don't reach by chance...

Friends and Volunteers

Without them and their efforts the Refuge could not survive.

Behind every dish, every bed made, every piece of advice on a path, there is us:
Antonella, Ivan, Didier and Pongo :)

The Granero is not just a refuge: it is our daily creation, made of simple gestures, artisanal care and a lot of passion.
Every summer we put our hands, heads and hearts together to welcome you as you would an old friend.

Because for us, hosting is not a job: it is the way we have chosen to give shape to the beauty of this place and share it with those who come up here.

Mission and Philosophy

Rifugio Granero has been our home since 1989.

A house at high altitude, where every gesture, every choice, every word is made with the awareness of those who know that the mountain is not owned: it is listened to, lived in, respected.

We have learned that our “limits” — the effort of carrying everything, the attention to every resource, the simplicity of the spaces — are our strength. They remind us every day that the essential is enough, and that in caring for the little things we find the deepest meaning of hospitality.

For us, welcoming means sharing.
It means preserving tradition without giving up on improving ourselves.
It means respecting the mountain and the people who live there, today and tomorrow.

This is our mantra. This is our way of living the world, at 2377 meters.
